С участием Рижского бизнес клуба, Посольства России, 10 июля прошло возложение цветов к памятнику погибшим русским воинам на острове Луцавсала в Риге в 1701 году.

Трагичное событие в местной истории произошло в начале Северной войны, когда шведы, победив саксонцев, решили избавиться от русских, которые оказались на острове Луцавсала в Ригек без подмоги. Шведское войско, большее по численности, надеялось без труда победить, но не получилось.

Шведский король Карл XII по прибытии увидел множество своих солдат убитыми и ранеными и двадцать отстреливавшихся русских воинов в редуте. Король восхитился их храбростью и велел не убивать, а взять в плен. Остальные погибшие составили первое братское захоронение Риги.
