
On the occasion of the celebration of Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus, the Ambassador of Belarus in Latvia, H.E. Mr. Aleksandr Gerasimenko, held a solemn reception on the 1st July.

H.E. Mr. Aleksandr Mikhailovich Gerasimenko held a reception on the 1st July.
The reception took place in the Maritim Hotel. There were invited guests from Belarus, representatives of the Belarusian diaspora of Latvia, businessmen and diplomats of many foreign countries’.
Independence Day is the most important state holiday in Republic of Belarus, and it is annually celebrated on the 3rd July. That day in 1944 the capital of Belarus, Minsk was liberated from the German occupation. Since 1991 Independence Day was celebrated on the 27th July, on the Day when the Declaration of sovereignty of Belarus was accepted.
The decision to celebrate Independence Day on the 3rd July, on the Day when Belarus was libearated from Nazis was accepted during the referendum in 1996.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus
H.E. Mr. Aleksandr Gerasimenko congratulated the guests on the holiday, wished success, prosperity and strengthening of friendship and economical connections between the nations of Belarus and Latvia.

An incredible National singing and dancing ensemble from Minsk performed at the reception. They sang traditional national songs and danced fascinating dances in a traditional style. Guests were also invited to take part in dancing and enjoyed that.

At the reception it was possible to see a photo exhibition about achievements of Belarus

Viesturs Tile, General Manager of the company “BT 1”, presented a Diploma from the International Exhibition Centre on Kipsala to
Igor Nazaruk , since the Counsellor is leaving Latvia and going back to Belarus. Viesturs Tile pointed out their good co-operation throughout many years within the framework of exhibition BELARUS Expo.

Members of the Club wished further success to the Counsellor of the Embassy of Belarus Igor Nazaruk, due to the end of his office in Latvia and reassignment to the new post.
